Excessive hair loss is not only a problem of middle-aged men. It is often caused by a disease or chronic stress. Hair does not always grow back and with age the process becomes irreversible. Luckily plastic surgery is there to solve issues like that. Your organism may have a problem with it, but to us it’s just a simple procedure.
Hair transplant involves harvesting a strip of hairy skin at the back or on the side of your scull where your hair is permanent and not susceptible to dihydrotestosterone (DHT), i.e. where it never falls out. The harvested strip is then dissected into small parts, the so called follicular units (grafts). They may differ in size and contain one, two, three and sometimes even four individual hairs. Your surgeon will prepare the target area by doing microincisions on the skin and will then transplant the grafts.
Procedure duration depends on the number of grafts. With 1000 grafts it usually takes ca. 2-3 hours, with 1500 grafts ca. 3-4 hours and with more than 2000 it can even take 5-6 hours. Your transplanted hair will go through all healing phases over the next 2-3 months after the surgery. After that period they start growing at the same rate as normal hair. Average growth speed is ca. 1-1.5 cm monthly.
