Eyebrow lift

The passage of time, daily stress and intense facial expressions can cause the eyebrows to droop, giving the face a harsh or dim expression. A surgical brow lift is an effective solution that not only improves facial proportions, but also rejuvenates and brightens the look. The result? The face becomes serene and open, and wrinkles on the forehead and around the eyes are reduced. The procedure is quick, minimally invasive, and the resulting scars remain hidden in the hairline.

What is a brow lift and how does the procedure work?

Eyebrow lift, also known as brow lift, is a cosmetic surgical procedure aimed at improving the appearance of the upper part of the face. The procedure allows for the lifting of the eyebrow line, reduction of forehead wrinkles, and partial correction of the upper eyelid skin fold. As a result, the face gains a younger, more cheerful appearance, and the eyes become more open and bright. The effect is long-lasting and significantly improves the proportions and aesthetics of the face.

The procedure involves making small incisions in the temporal region, in the scalp area. The skin is then precisely separated down to the orbital rim, and the lateral temporal ligament is released, allowing the lateral brow to be lifted upward. Excess skin is removed and the incision site carefully sutured so that the scar is hidden under the hairline and almost invisible.

The entire procedure takes a relatively short time and is performed under general anesthesia. Thanks to the minimally invasive technique, patients can quickly return to normal functioning, and the first effects are visible after just a few weeks, with full results after about three months. The procedure can also be combined with other procedures like a facelift or eyelid correction for a comprehensive improvement in appearance.

How to prepare for the procedure?

Preparing for an eyebrow lift procedure requires the right approach and adherence to medical advice for the procedure to proceed safely and effectively. The first step is a consultation with a plastic surgeon, during which the patient's expectations, details of the procedure and possible contraindications are discussed. The patient should be in generally good health, and any chronic diseases must be properly treated and controlled. Laboratory tests are necessary (blood count, coagulation system, glucose levels and other tests ordered by the doctor).

14 days before surgery, it is advisable to avoid medications that affect blood clotting, such as aspirin or anti-inflammatory drugs, as they can increase the risk of complications. It is also advisable to avoid alcohol and limit smoking, which can slow down the wound healing process. The patient should take care to moisturize the skin in the facial area to improve its elasticity and prepare it for the procedure. On the day of the procedure, the patient should come fasting and make sure to wear a comfortable outfit that does not require putting on over the head.

Recovery after brow lift

Recovery from a brow lift is relatively quick and without major complications, provided the doctor's instructions are followed. Immediately after the procedure, there may be slight swelling and bruising around the eyelids and forehead, which usually subsides within 10-14 days. Intense facial expressions should be avoided for the first few days after surgery, as well as any activity that may strain the facial muscles such as bending or lifting heavy objects.

The scars from the incisions, hidden in the hairline, are virtually invisible and gradually fade. You can return to your daily routine after a few days, and the full effect of the procedure is only visible after about three months, when the skin and tissues have completely healed.

During the recovery period, it is advisable to sleep on your back to reduce swelling and use cold compresses to relieve discomfort. If necessary, mild painkillers can be taken as prescribed by the doctor. During the first few weeks, it is advisable to avoid sun exposure, and use creams with a high UV filter if you must be outdoors.

Contraindications to brow lift

A brow lift, although a relatively safe surgical procedure, cannot be performed on everyone. There are several important contraindications that may preclude one from undergoing this procedure.

  • Chronic and cardiovascular diseases - unregulated hypertension, diabetes, or other conditions requiring ongoing treatment can increase the risk of complications during or after surgery.
  • Blood clotting disorders - people with clotting disorders or taking anticoagulants must avoid this type of procedure.
  • Inflammatory conditions and skin infections - such as herpes, acne or other active infections in the face.
  • Autoimmune diseases - conditions like lupus or rheumatoid arthritis can complicate the healing process.
  • Oncology treatment - patients during or immediately after cancer therapy should not undergo the procedure.
  • Pregnancy and breastfeeding - women who are pregnant or breastfeeding should avoid surgery because of the risks to maternal and child health.

Before deciding on an eyebrow lift, it is essential to consult with a plastic surgeon who will carefully assess the patient's health, order the necessary laboratory tests and discuss the potential risks of the procedure.
