Frown lines ("lion's wrinkle")

The "lion's wrinkle" is a vertical furrow or set of furrows visible between the eyebrows, most often related to the action of the mimic muscles in this area. Initially it appears when frowning, concentrating, or under emotional tension, and over time it may also become established at rest. Its visibility is influenced by facial expression, skin quality, sun exposure, genetics, and the aging process. Assessment of frown lines should take into account facial anatomy and the patient's natural expression.
