Fungal acne (Malassezia folliculitis)

"Fungal acne" is a colloquial term for skin lesions resembling acne, usually related to the excessive proliferation of Malassezia yeasts in hair follicles. In medicine, this is more often referred to as folliculitis caused by these microorganisms. The lesions often take the form of itchy, small papules or pustules appearing on the chest, back, arms, or face. Because it can resemble common acne, diagnosis and choice of treatment require a dermatological consultation.
