"Narcosis" is a colloquial term for general anesthesia, during which the patient remains in a controlled state of unconsciousness. It is used for selected surgical procedures when it is necessary to eliminate pain, reflexes, and consciousness during the procedure. The course of anesthesia is supervised by an anesthesiologist, who assesses the patient's health, test results, and possible risk factors. Qualification for general anesthesia requires an anesthesiology consultation and disclosure of information about diseases, medications, and previous reactions to anesthesia.
