Glycolic acid is an alpha-hydroxy acid from the AHA group, obtained, among other things, from sugar cane. It has a small molecule, so it can intensively exfoliate the superficial layers of the epidermis and affect skin smoothing. In cosmetology and dermatology, it is used for uneven skin texture, discoloration, comedones, and signs of photoaging. Its effect depends on concentration, pH, and contact time with the skin. It requires caution on sensitive or irritated skin.
