Hormonal acne

Hormonal acne is a colloquial term for acne lesions whose severity is related to the influence of hormones on the activity of the sebaceous glands. It often occurs in adult women, can worsen before menstruation, and appears on the lower part of the face, the chin, jaw, or neck. The lesions tend to be painful, deep-seated, and recurring. Causes may include natural hormonal fluctuations, but also disorders requiring diagnostics. Treatment choice should be preceded by a dermatological consultation, and sometimes also an endocrinological or gynecological one.
