An incisional hernia is a protrusion of tissues or organs through a weakened area of the abdominal wall after a previous operation. It most often appears in the area of the postoperative scar and can be visible as a lump or bulge that worsens with coughing, exertion, or standing. Risk factors include, among others, healing disorders, wound infection, obesity, chronic cough, or heavy physical strain. Pain, redness, a hard lump, nausea, or inability to reduce the hernia require urgent medical consultation.
