Keloid scar

A keloid scar, also called a keloid, is an excessively overgrown scar that extends beyond the boundaries of the original skin damage. It can be hard, raised, red, itchy, or painful to the touch. Keloids result from an abnormal healing response and occur more often in people with a genetic predisposition. They may appear after injuries, surgeries, piercings, acne, or burns. Assessing the scar and choosing a management method require consultation with a specialist.
