Abdominal "spare tire"

The abdominal "spare tire" is a colloquial term for a local accumulation of fatty tissue, and sometimes skin laxity, in the lower or middle part of the abdomen. It can be related to body build, weight fluctuations, lifestyle, genetic predisposition, hormonal changes, or previous pregnancies. It does not always disappear proportionally with weight loss. Assessment should take into account the amount of fatty tissue, skin quality, abdominal wall tension, and the patient's general health.
