Scarring alopecia
Scarring alopecia is a group of conditions in which permanent damage to hair follicles occurs, with their replacement by scar tissue. It may manifest as patches of thinning or hair loss, redness, flaking, itching, pain, or a burning sensation of the scalp. The causes can be inflammatory, autoimmune, infectious, or post-traumatic. Early diagnosis is particularly important, because lost hair follicles do not grow back. Symptoms require a dermatological or trichological consultation.
