Scars after herpes (cold sores)

Scars after herpes may form after intense inflammation, scratching of blisters, secondary infection, or improper healing of skin lesions. They most often affect the area of the lips, nose, or facial skin. They may take the form of discoloration, depigmentation, small indentations, or an uneven skin surface. Herpes itself is a viral infection with a tendency to recur. If lesions are active, painful, frequently recurring, or leave marks, it is worth consulting a doctor.
