Stretch marks on the abdomen and buttocks

Stretch marks on the abdomen and buttocks are linear skin changes resulting from stretching and weakening of the supporting fibers, mainly collagen and elastin. Initially they may be pink, red, or purple, and over time become lighter and less raised. They often appear during puberty, pregnancy, with weight fluctuations, or hormonal changes. They are not a disease, but can affect patient comfort. Choosing management requires a skin assessment.
