Tear trough

The tear trough is a colloquial term for the indentation running from the inner corner of the eye toward the cheek. It can create the impression of a tired, sadder, or more sunken facial appearance. Its visibility depends on the anatomy of the eye socket, skin thickness, distribution of fatty tissue, skin quality, and the aging process. In some people it is a congenital feature, in others it becomes more pronounced over time. Assessment of the tear trough requires an analysis of the entire under-eye area.
