The beam emitted by fractional CO2 lasers reaches dozens of points at the same time, reducing the duration of the procedure, as well as the discomfort felt by the patient. Where the laser beam hits, the epidermis and part of the dermis are vaporized, thus creating micro-columns of damage. The skin between them remains intact, so the healing and recovery process is accelerated. After the procedure, the epidermis begins to peel, resulting in the smoothing of wrinkles and scars, as well as the equalization of skin tone.
What does the fractional laser treatment look like?
The procedure is carried out under local anesthesia, and a special cream is applied to the skin 30-40 minutes beforehand. The laser beam, guided by a scanner, is then directed at the designated body part and creates thousands of micro craters in the skin. Since only 20% of the body area is affected during the procedure, the risk of complications is reduced to a minimum, this also ensures a short recovery time. Immediately after the procedure, spot bleeding and erythema may occur, but these symptoms usually last up to 3 days and resolve completely within a week. Exfoliation of the epidermis usually takes 3-7 days, with wounds healing for up to 14 days. Even then, the process of new collagen production begins and the first effects can be seen. Their visibility gradually increases over 3-6 months, after which time full results are achieved. In order for them to be the best, it is recommended to use fractional laser 2 to 4 times, keeping a 4-5 week interval, depending on the intensity of the previous treatment.
What are the indications for CO2 fractional laser treatment?
The primary indication for fractional laser is poor skin condition. The treatment allows for a more youthful appearance and gets rid of many problems such as:
- Fine or deep wrinkles, including around the mouth and eyes,
- Sagging, firmness-deprived skin,
- enlarged pores,
- Earthy skin tone,
- Uneven skin tone.
CO2 fractional laser treatments also reduce hyperpigmentation, age spots, stretch marks and scars:
- post-burn,
- acne,
- Post-traumatic and post-surgical,
- hypertrophic and keloids.
How do I prepare for a CO2 fractional laser treatment?
One month before the scheduled procedure, the patient should discontinue preparations of retinol, isotretinoin and other vitamin A derivatives. During this time, microdermabrasion, deep peels, preparations with vitamin C and acids should also be avoided. One week before the procedure, it is recommended to stop preparations that have calendula or St. John's wort in their composition. The area of the body covered by the laser beam should not be tanned.
