What is chin liposuction and how does the procedure work?
Chin liposuction is a modern, minimally invasive surgical method used to remove excess fatty tissue from the neck and chin area. The procedure allows for precise modeling of the lower face and neck, restoring its harmonious proportions and clear contours. It is especially recommended for people who struggle with the problem of a double chin caused by excess weight, genetic predisposition or the natural aging process of the skin.
The procedure is usually performed under general or intravenous anesthesia. The surgeon makes 2-3 small incisions of several millimeters in the neck area and behind the ears. A metal cannula equipped with a laser fiber is then inserted through these holes. The laser energy breaks up the accumulated fatty tissue, transforming it into a liquid substance, which is then suctioned out using a special device.
During the procedure, the surgeon contours the chin, creating a distinct line separating the face from the neck, giving the face a slender and youthful appearance. Once the procedure is complete, the incisions are sutured and a special tourniquet is placed on the patient to act as a bandage and help maintain the new shape and promote healing.
The entire procedure takes about an hour, and the results are visible after just a few weeks, when the swelling subsides. Final results, in the form of a clearly defined facial contour, can be assessed after about 3 months.
How to prepare for the procedure?
The first step is a consultation with a plastic surgery specialist, during which the patient's health is assessed, expectations, the procedure and possible complications are discussed. The doctor also performs the qualification for the procedure, ordering the necessary tests.
Approximately two weeks before the scheduled surgery, you should avoid taking medications that affect blood clotting. One month before visiting the clinic, it is advisable to give up smoking and alcohol consumption, as they can slow down the healing process. The patient should ensure adequate hydration and a balanced diet to promote tissue regeneration.
On the day of surgery, you should be fasting if general or intravenous anesthesia is provided. It is also important to wear comfortable clothing that does not need to be worn over the head to avoid discomfort after surgery. A place to rest at home should be taken care of before the procedure, and return transportation from the clinic should be arranged, as the patient should not drive after the procedure.
Recovery after chin liposuction
Recuperation after chin liposuction is relatively short and allows for a quick return to daily activities, provided that medical instructions are followed. Immediately after the procedure, the patient may experience slight discomfort, swelling and bruising in the neck and chin area, which are a natural effect of the surgery. These symptoms usually subside within 7-10 days.
An important part of recovery is wearing a special tourniquet for about 3 weeks after the procedure. The brace acts as a bandage, aids the healing process, reduces swelling and helps maintain the new shape of the chin. In the first few days after surgery, it is recommended to limit intense physical activity, avoid bending over and sleeping on your back to reduce the risk of additional swelling.
Hygiene is extremely important - take care of the incision sites, which are secured with stitches. The stitches are usually removed after about a week, and small incision scars heal within a few months and are virtually invisible.
The effects of the procedure can be assessed after about 3 months, when the tissue regeneration process is complete and the contour of the face and neck becomes clearly defined. Regular follow-up visits allow the doctor to monitor the progress of healing and make sure the process is going well.
Contraindications to chin liposuction
Chin liposuction is not recommended for people with unregulated chronic diseases like hypertension or diabetes, as well as patients with blood clotting disorders. Active infections or inflammation in the neck area, as well as pregnancy and breastfeeding are also contraindications. Before the procedure, a detailed consultation with a surgeon is necessary to assess the patient's overall health and rule out any risks.
