What is laser epilation?

Laser epilation involves the use of a concentrated beam of laser light, which is absorbed by melanin - a pigment found in hair follicles. The light energy is converted into heat, which leads to damage to the hair follicle and inhibition of hair growth. The method is mainly effective for dark hair on light skin, as the contrast between skin and hair color allows the laser energy to be better focused on the hair follicle.

How does the laser epilation procedure go?

Before the procedure, a detailed consultation is carried out, during which the patient's skin type, hair color and thickness, and general health are assessed. The day before the procedure, the area to be epilated should be shaved with a disposable razor. It is important not to use depilatories, wax or tweezers for at least 4-8 weeks before the procedure, as these methods remove the hair along with the root, which can affect the effectiveness of the laser.

During the laser session, the patient wears special protective goggles, and a cooling gel is applied to the skin. The doctor then moves the laser head over the skin, emitting pulses of light. After the procedure, the skin may be slightly reddened, which is a natural reaction and subsides after a few hours.

Who can benefit from laser epilation?

Laser epilation is suitable for people:

  • With dark hair on light skin,
  • With the problem of ingrown hairs,
  • Those wishing to achieve a long-lasting smooth skin effect,
  • Tired of frequent use of traditional depilation methods.

Effects of laser epilation

After a series of treatments (usually 4-8 sessions at intervals of 4-8 weeks), you can expect a significant reduction in hair growth, smoother skin, fewer ingrown hairs, and, above all, long-lasting results without the need for daily hair removal.

What are the contraindications to laser epilation treatment

Laser epilation is not recommended if you are: pregnant or breastfeeding, have skin diseases in the treatment area (e.g. psoriasis, eczema), have active skin infections, are taking certain medications (e.g. retinoids, antibiotics such as tetracycline), have a fresh tan or use self-tanners, have a large number of moles in the treatment area.

Duration depends on the treatment area - from 5 minutes (e.g., mustache) to 90 minutes (e.g., whole legs).

What are the recommendations after laser treatment??

Avoid sun exposure for about 10 days, don't use scrubs or irritating cosmetics for several days, and don't pluck hair with tweezers or wax between treatments.
