Stage 1 of Maria's story - dental treatment

One of the issues Maria brought to the program was missing teeth. This stage involved a dental consultation and planning for tooth restoration. Dr. Michał Nawrocki planned the restoration using implants. The goal of this treatment was to replace the missing teeth and improve both dental function and the appearance of her smile.

The next part of Maria's story was a consultation with Dr. Marek Szczyt. After assessing her health, facial structure, and the patient's expectations, the scope of the surgery was planned. It included Deep Plane Face Lift, brow lift, eyelid surgery and lip lift. During the surgery, a neck correction was also performed.

Combining surgical procedures during a single operation is possible for selected patients. The decision takes into account health status, the estimated duration of the surgery and anesthesia, risks, and the possibility of staging the treatment.

A Deep Plane Face Lift differs from superficial skin tightening. During this surgery, the surgeon also works on deeper facial structures, including the SMAS layer and facial muscles. Incisions are made along the hairline and in front of and behind the ear.

A brow lift, in turn, involves surgically raising the brow line.The procedure can be combined with both a facelift and eyelid surgery. A lip lift, on the other hand, concerns the lower part of the face – by removing a precisely planned section of skin below the nose, the distance between the base of the nose and the upper lip is shortened.

What does the qualification and preparation process for facial surgery look like?

Preparation begins with a consultation with the surgeon. The doctor assesses your health and the indications for surgery, discusses expectations, anticipated benefits, limitations, risks, and possible alternatives. Before the surgery, the patient should receive clear information necessary to make an informed decision and provide consent.

The scope of preoperative tests and any additional consultations is determined by the medical team. It depends on factors such as the type of surgery and anesthesia, age, coexisting conditions, and medications being taken.

During the consultation, you must provide information about all medications and supplements you are taking, especially those that affect blood clotting. Do not stop taking or change the dosage of any medications on your own. The medical team will also provide recommendations regarding quitting smoking, avoiding other nicotine products, and consuming alcohol.

Before anesthesia, the anesthesiologist will provide instructions regarding eating and drinking. These recommendations distinguish between solid foods and liquids and may vary depending on your health status and medications. Please follow the instructions provided for your specific surgery.

Recovery after a facelift and combined surgery

Two weeks after the surgery, Maria came to Dr Szczyt Chirurgia Plastyczna for a follow-up visit. She proceeded to the next part of the program, which included a makeover, after about eight weeks.

After a facelift, you may experience swelling, bruising, a feeling of tightness, and temporary sensory disturbances. The healing rate depends on the extent of the surgery and individual factors. You may be able to return to your daily activities before all symptoms have subsided, and the appearance of the operated areas will continue to be evaluated in the following months.

Recommendations regarding physical activity, bending over, sun protection, using the sauna, and wound care are determined by the surgical team. After eyelid surgery or a lip lift, the patient also receives instructions specific to those procedures. Follow-up visits are used to assess healing and adjust further care.

Risks of complications and contraindications for facial surgery

Facial surgeries carry the risk of complications. These may include:

• healing issues and unfavorable scarring,
• persistent sensory disturbances, asymmetry, or an unsatisfactory result,
• nerve damage and complications related to anesthesia,
• bleeding, hematoma, and infection.

The type and level of risk depend on the specific procedure, the extent of the surgery, and your health status. The doctor will discuss these individually during the qualification process. Achieving a specific aesthetic result is not guaranteed.

Surgery may be postponed or cancelled due to factors such as active infections, uncontrolled hypertension or diabetes, blood clotting disorders, and other conditions that increase the risks associated with surgery or anesthesia. The decision takes into account the level of chronic disease management, current treatment, and the results of the qualification process.

Following her treatment and recovery period, Maria met with a hairstylist, makeup artist, and stylist. The episode's finale showcased her after the various stages of dental treatment, facial surgery, and a complete makeover.
