What is the treatment for hyperhidrosis?
MiraDry® is a state-of-the-art medical procedure that uses microwave energy (miraWave technology) to precisely reach the sweat glands located under the arms and permanently deactivate them. These glands do not regenerate, which means that the effects of the procedure are permanent and the problem of hyperhidrosis does not return. For a few days after the procedure there may be mild swelling, a change in sensation in the skin under the armpits, and moderate pain may be felt, but all these discomforts gradually subside.
The procedure requires no incisions, does not affect the skin and does not interfere with the body's natural ability to regulate temperature. Usually one treatment is sufficient, although in selected cases it may be recommended to repeat the procedure after about 3 months.
Due to the duration of the procedure, please book your appointment in advance through the reception of the hospitals.
How does the procedure work?
During the procedure, the doctor applies the head of the device to the previously anesthetized area of the armpits. The microwave energy emitted selectively destroys the sweat and apocrine glands, without damaging other skin structures. The entire procedure takes about 60-75 minutes, and the patient can go home immediately after the procedure.
In the first few days after treatment, there may be:
- slight swelling,
- Underarm skin tenderness,
- A feeling of discomfort or moderate pain.
These symptoms are temporary and usually resolve on their own within a few days. If necessary, cold compresses and over-the-counter painkillers can be used.
Effects of the treatment
Treatment of hyperhidrosis with the MiraDry system is distinguished by its high success rate. The effectiveness of the method has been confirmed in clinical studies, and satisfaction with the results is declared by more than 90% of patients. After the treatment:
- There is a reduction in sweating by about 85-95%,
- The results are already visible after the first session,
- The effect is permanent - sweat glands do not regenerate,
- There is a reduction or complete elimination of sweat odor.
When not to perform hyperhidrosis treatment?
The procedure cannot be performed in:
- Persons under the age of 18,
- Patients with electronic implants (e.g., a pacemaker),
- People with hypersensitivity to anesthetics containing lidocaine and epinephrine.
Each case is individually evaluated during a medical consultation.
