What is labioplasty and what does the procedure look like?
Labioplasty is a precise plastic surgery of the labia minora (less commonly, the greater labia), performed under local or general anesthesia. The procedure involves shortening, reducing or correcting the asymmetry of the labia minora, while preserving their natural functionality and sensitivity. The surgeon reshapes the tissue in such a way as to provide an aesthetically pleasing appearance as well as physical comfort - both in daily function and in intimate intercourse. The procedure is performed using techniques that allow for minimal scarring and the fastest possible healing.
Depending on the patient's needs, labioplasty can be combined with clitoral foreskin plication - if there is excess skin around the clitoris.
How to prepare for a labioplasty procedure?
Approximately 2 weeks before the scheduled procedure, medications that interfere with blood clotting, as well as dietary supplements and foods that can affect healing (e.g. ginger, garlic, omega 3 acids) should be discontinued. On the day of the procedure, the patient should be healthy, with no intimate infections or active inflammation. The procedure is carried out after prior consultation and medical qualification.
Before the procedure, the intimate area should be depilated or shaved, but no later than 2-3 days before the procedure - to avoid skin irritation. It is recommended to come in loose cotton underwear and comfortable clothes.
Recovery after labioplasty
The recovery period lasts from 14 to about 28 days. For the first few days after surgery, there may be swelling, tenderness and mild pain in the operated area - these symptoms gradually subside. Hygiene recommendations should be followed and exercise, cycling, heavy walking and intercourse should be avoided for a minimum of 4-6 weeks. The sutures dissolve spontaneously.
The labioplasty procedure is relatively minimally invasive and the results are permanent. In most cases, a single surgical procedure is sufficient.
What are the contraindications to labioplasty?
- Active infection of intimate places (bacterial, fungal or viral),
- Unregulated diabetes or blood clotting disorders,
- Pregnancy and breastfeeding,
- cancers of the intimate area,
- Menstruation (the procedure should not be performed during bleeding),
- A tendency to scarring.
