What does a hair transplant using the FUE method look like?

It is a minimally invasive technique, performed under local anesthesia. The procedure usually takes 4 to 9 hours, after which the patient can go home the same day.

A major advantage of this method is that no stitches are needed, and there is a lower risk of visible scarring than with older techniques. From the patient's perspective, this means a shorter recovery and a more comfortable return to everyday life.

Can everyone go straight ahead with a transplant?

Hair problems can have very different causes – from stress and hormonal changes to genetics, diet, or illness. That's exactly why treatment should start with a thorough diagnosis. The first step should be a consultation, during which a specialist assesses the condition of the scalp, the type of problem, and the possible causes of hair loss. FUE hair transplantation works best for people with advanced hair loss.

There are also contraindications to the procedure. These include scalp conditions such as infections, fungal infections, or psoriasis, blood clotting disorders, uncontrolled hypertension, uncontrolled diabetes, active purulent infections of the skin and mucous membranes, as well as an insufficient number of healthy hair follicles in the donor area.

What needs to be done before the procedure?

Preparation matters, and it shouldn't be treated as an afterthought. Before the transplant, we recommend avoiding alcohol for 5–7 days, giving up caffeinated beverages, not smoking cigarettes, and discontinuing anti-inflammatory medications such as aspirin for at least a week before the procedure. Certain tests are also needed, including a complete blood count, blood type, clotting parameters, creatinine, glucose, and electrolytes, and for some patients, additional diagnostics as well.

It's also worth simply planning the day sensibly: get a good night's sleep, wear comfortable clothing, and arrange transportation home. The procedure takes several hours, so even though it's performed under local anesthesia, you may simply feel tired afterward. 

When are the results of the transplant visible?

This isn't a method whose result can be assessed after a week.

Within a few weeks after the procedure, the transplanted hair may fall out, and this is a natural stage of the entire process. New hair usually starts growing after about 3-4 months, and we typically assess the full aesthetic effect after 9-12 months. That's exactly why the decision to have a transplant is best treated as a process, not as a one-time service with an immediate final result.

Is it worth doing anything else after the transplant?

An FUE hair transplant is often not the end of the journey. After the procedure, we recommend implementing supplementary treatment. Additional therapies can improve microcirculation and nourishment of the hair follicles, speed up scalp healing, and support the growth of new hair. Among the most commonly used methods are scalp mesotherapy, platelet-rich plasma, and minoxidil.

We usually consider this kind of supportive treatment once at least 1-2 weeks have passed since the transplant, the scalp has healed, and the patient has no infection or inflammation.

What determines the final price?

The shortest answer is: on the scale of the problem. Only on this basis can it be determined whether we're talking about a smaller procedure or one covering a much larger area.

And this is exactly where the difference in price begins.

Because in practice, you don't pay for the procedure itself, but for its scope, duration, and the treatment plan tailored to the specific case. That's why comparing rates from different websites alone often doesn't tell you much. Without a medical assessment, it's hard to determine how many grafts will be needed and whether FUE will even be the best solution.
