The decision to choose implants is always the result of a consultation between the doctor and the patient. Much depends on expectations, as well as visualization of how the breast will look after the procedure. The anatomical structure is not insignificant, hence the help of an experienced specialist is most important in choosing the right implants. What is the difference between anatomical and round implants? Which type to choose?

Is breast augmentation safe?

Breast implants were first used more than 50 years ago. Since then, they have been increasingly innovated to eliminate problems associated with their use, including pouch rotation, pouch contracture and lymphoma associated with the implant pouch. All this so that modern women can safely undergo breast augmentation surgery and enjoy the results.

Implants are used for:

  • Breast augmentation - to improve the proportions and increase the size of women's breasts,
  • reconstruction - the procedure is carried out to restore the shape of a woman's breasts, such as after mastectomy, trauma or to correct congenital defects,
  • Replacement or correction - the procedure is performed to replace the dentures used in previous augmentation or reconstruction surgery.

What types of implants are there?

Round implants give the effect of a full and lifted bust (they increase the volume of the breasts in both the lower and upper parts). They resemble a larger or smaller hemisphere, which - depending on the height of the profile projection - can be standard, medium, high or ultra-high (the latter two are intended for women who have a narrow chest and those expecting a larger breast profile).

Anatomical implants are teardrop-shaped and close to the natural shape of the breast, so they are ideal for women who want to enlarge their breasts in a discreet way. They are also recommended for patients whose breasts have lost firmness due to pregnancy or other circumstances.

Sometimes the use of round implants produces similar results to anatomical implants, such as when the implants chosen for the procedure are not too large and when the woman has good tissue coverage and shapely breasts.

Lipofiling (fat grafting) vs. breast augmentation

It is worth mentioning that in addition to implants, the patient can opt for breast augmentation with her own fatty tissue. This method is very well studied, also in terms of oncological safety. However, you have to wait a little longer for the results, which also involves the need for 2-3 procedures. This type of breast augmentation produces natural-looking breasts, and the effect lasts for years.

The first part of the procedure is liposuction, which further helps to model the figure. Fat, taken, for example, from the abdominal layers, is processed and later introduced into the tissues of the mammary gland through small punctures. It is important that the procedure be performed in a professional clinic, as administering too much fat in one procedure will result in the excess transplant not being absorbed into the surrounding tissue and will be absorbed or form an oily cyst.

What are the best breast implants?

The choice of implants depends largely on what the patient's expectations are.

Round implants:

  • They give the impression of full breasts,
  • Are symmetrical (do not change the appearance of the bust when displaced),
  • allow for natural breasts, especially in young women.

Anatomical implants:

  • They enlarge the breasts mainly in the lower part,
  • Discreetly enlarge the breasts,
  • Are close to the natural shape of the breast.

Which implants allow breast correction?

The correction of breast developmental abnormalities, such as pseudopthosis (unnatural drooping of the breast), tubular (bulbous) breasts and underdeveloped lower pole, is most often performed with anatomical prostheses. The goal is to restore the natural shape and volume of the breast. These prostheses are also used for breast reconstruction after surgical procedures, especially after mastectomy.

Anatomical implants and the risk of rotation

Anatomical implants are not symmetrical, so there is a potential risk of rotation (the breasts may lose their appearance and proportions), but this occurs very rarely - studies have shown it to be less than 2.5%. In preventing implant rotation, good preoperative planning, choosing the right surgical technique and choosing a clinic with experienced specialists are important.

FAQ

Which implants to choose - round or anatomical?

Much depends on the effect we want to achieve and the patient's build. Slender ladies are generally recommended anatomical implants. On the other hand, those who want to emphasize the already shapely breasts can opt for round implants. It is worth remembering that the final decision should be made together with the doctor.

What are the best breast implants?

The best implants are those that are well matched to the shape of a woman's body and will achieve the desired effect. Hence, it is important to choose the right implant (its shape and size) together with the doctor.

What do breasts look like with anatomical implants?

Anatomical implants (so-called teardrop implants) are shaped similar to the natural breast (rounded at the bottom, slightly flattened at the top). Thus, they allow for a discreet effect of breast augmentation while preserving the natural shape of the breast.

Do anatomical implants twist?

Anatomical implants, due to their lack of symmetry, pose a risk of rotation, but this is minimal.
