A breast lift (mastopexy) is a surgical procedure that recovers the original shape, firmness and proportion of the breasts, restoring their aesthetic appearance and natural lift.
What does a breast lift involve?
Mastopexy is a procedure that contours the breasts by lifting and firming the breast tissues. During the operation, the surgeon removes excess flaccid skin, reshapes the mammary gland and raises the nipple and areola to the appropriate level, so that the breasts regain their natural position and aesthetic appearance.
Depending on the patient's needs, the treatment may include:
- Just lifting and modeling the breasts,
- Reduction of the wart-eye complex,
- combination with breast augmentation with implants, if the patient also wants to achieve volume enhancement.
The result of mastopexy is a firm, symmetrical and naturally lifted bust, matching the figure and proportions of the body.
How does the procedure work?
The breast lift procedure is performed under general anesthesia and lasts an average of 2 to 3 hours.
The surgeon makes precise incisions, usually around the areola, vertically downward or in the subpectoral fold - depending on the scope of the procedure and the individual's physique. He then contours the glandular tissue, removes excess skin and lifts the breasts upward.
After the procedure is completed, a special post-operative bra is worn to stabilize the breasts and promote healing.
The patient remains in the clinic for observation for 24 hours.
How to prepare for surgery?
Prior to surgery, a surgical consultation and necessary laboratory and imaging tests (e.g. breast ultrasound, ECG) are required.
A few days before surgery, you should:
- Discontinue blood-thinning drugs (such as aspirin),
- Give up smoking cigarettes,
- avoid alcohol consumption,
- Ensure proper hydration of the body.
The treatment is intended for women in good health who have completed their breastfeeding period and are not planning a pregnancy in the near future.
Recovery period
After surgery , you may experience swelling, bruising or a feeling of tightness in the breasts, which gradually subsides over several days.
In the first weeks after surgery, you should:
- Wear a post-operative bra for a minimum of 2 months,
- avoid physical exertion and lifting,
- Sleep in the supine position,
- Take care of wound hygiene and follow the doctor's instructions.
The stitches are usually removed after about 10-14 days.
You can return to light activity after 2 weeks, while you can return to full fitness and exercise after about 6-8 weeks.
The final effect of breast contouring is visible after 3-6 months, when the tissues have fully healed and positioned.
Effects of the treatment
- Breast lift and firming,
- Improving the shape and proportion of the bust,
- reducing asymmetry,
- regaining a youthful appearance,
- Better well-being and self-confidence.
The results are long-lasting, although the skin aging process continues to progress naturally. Regular care and stable weight help maintain the effect for many years.
Contraindications to breast lift surgery
The procedure is not performed in the case of:
- pregnancy and breastfeeding,
- Active infections or inflammation of the skin,
- blood clotting disorders,
- Cancer diseases under treatment,
- unregulated hypertension or diabetes,
- Heart and respiratory diseases,
- lack of stable body weight (significant weight fluctuations may affect the effect of the treatment).
