FUE hair transplantation

Follicular Unit Extraction (FUE) hair transplantation is one of the most modern and popular hair transplantation techniques. It involves taking individual hair follicles from an area that is resistant to hair loss (usually the back and sides of the head) and then implanting them in the area where hair is beginning to fall out or is severely thinning.

How does the FUE procedure work?

  1. Consultation: At the outset, a thorough consultation with a doctor is conducted to assess the condition of the scalp, hair density, degree of hair loss and potential transplantation options.
  2. Preparation: Before the procedure, the patient is given a local anesthetic to minimize pain. Sometimes sedation is also performed to make the patient more relaxed.
  3. Collection of hair follicles: Using special extraction tools, the doctor extracts individual hair follicles from the donor area. The extraction is done in a precise manner so as not to damage healthy follicles.
  4. Follicle preparation: The harvested hair follicles are then carefully prepared for transplantation - they are checked for quality and classified according to the number of hairs in each follicle.
  5. Follicle implantation: the doctor performs microincisions in the recipient area (that is, where the hair is to be transplanted), creating small incisions into which the prepared hair follicles are then inserted.
  6. Completion of the procedure: Once the transplantation is complete, the patient can return home, although there may be some discomfort or swelling at the surgical site for a while.

After treatment

After the transplant, the transplanted hair may fall out within a few weeks after the procedure, which is a natural stage. New hair begins to grow after about 3-4 months, and the full effect is usually seen after 9-12 months.

The FUE method is characterized by minimal invasiveness, less risk of scarring and faster recovery time compared to the older FUT (Follicular Unit Transplantation) method.

Preparation

Preparing for an FUE hair transplant procedure is crucial to ensure the best possible results and minimize the risk of complications. Here are some important steps to take before the procedure:

  1. Consultation with a doctor:
  • Alcohol: Avoid drinking alcohol at least 5-7 days before the procedure. Alcohol can affect blood clotting, which may increase the risk of bleeding during the procedure.
  • Smoking: Smoking decreases blood circulation and can negatively affect skin healing, so it's a good idea to quit smoking a few weeks before the procedure.

2. avoid alcohol and cigarettes

3. discontinuation of certain medications

  • Blood-thinning medications: Medications such as aspirin, ibuprofen, or other anti-inflammatory agents that may affect blood clotting should be discontinued about 7-10 days before the procedure (after consultation with the doctor).
  • Supplements: Supplements that can affect blood clotting, such as vitamin E and omega-3 fatty acids, should also be discontinued.

4. proper hygiene

  • Hair: The day before the treatment, wash your hair thoroughly so that your scalp is clean. Avoid using styling products such as gels, mousses or sprays that can contaminate the scalp.
  • Avoid irritation: A few days before the procedure, it is a good idea to avoid excessive sweating, hot baths or scalp tanning so that the skin is in the best possible condition for the procedure.

5. treatment day preparation

  • Food and drink: The procedure is usually performed under local anesthesia, so the patient can eat a light meal the morning before the procedure, but should not drink alcohol or caffeinated beverages.
  • Clothing: Wear loose clothing that won't touch the scalp, such as shirts with buttons, so that you don't have to pull clothes over your head after the procedure.
  • Rest beforehand: It's a good idea to get a good night's sleep before the procedure, as a hair transplant can take several hours and it's important for the patient to be rested and relaxed.

6. transportation security

  • Return after the procedure: The procedure can take several hours, and the patient may feel tired afterwards, so it is advisable to plan for transportation home.

Contraindications

FUE hair transplantation has several contraindications

  1. Scalp diseases: infections, ringworm, psoriasis.
  2. Systemic diseases: Serious heart disease, diabetes, autoimmune diseases, endocrine diseases, blood clotting disorders.
  3. Insufficient healthy follicles: Too few hairs in the donor site....

Before the procedure, it is necessary to consult a doctor who will assess whether there are any contraindications to the procedure.

FAQ

Answers to frequently asked questions about a variety of treatments and procedures.

How to make an appointment at Dr Szczyt Clinic?

You can schedule a visit by calling 22 654 90 60 or via the website under Consultation appointments.

How do you choose the right treatment at Dr Szczyt Clinic?

The best way to choose the right treatment at a plastic surgery and aesthetic medicine clinic is to start with a consultation with a specialist. During the visit, the doctor will conduct a detailed medical interview, familiarize themselves with the patient's expectations, and assess their health and the specific nature of the aesthetic problem. Based on this information, they will advise on which treatments will be appropriate to achieve the desired results. The consultation also allows you to discuss the available options, their potential effects, and any possible risks, which makes it easier to make an informed decision.

What are the risks associated with plastic surgery procedures?

Every plastic surgery procedure, like any medical intervention, involves certain risks. The most common complications include infections, bleeding, reactions to anesthesia, and scarring. Less common complications include blood clots, pulmonary embolism, and sensory disturbances in the operated area. Proper preparation of the patient, careful qualification for the procedure, and the experience and professionalism of the medical team significantly minimize these risks. It is also important to follow the doctor's recommendations in the postoperative period, which allows for a faster and safer recovery.

Are aesthetic medicine procedures painful?

Aesthetic medicine treatments are usually minimally invasive and involve minimal discomfort. Most of them, such as injections or laser therapy, are performed using local anesthetics, which significantly reduces discomfort. Patients may experience slight pricking, burning, or tightness of the skin, but these symptoms usually disappear quickly after the procedure. If necessary, the doctor will always select appropriate pain relief methods to ensure maximum comfort for patients.
