Shoulder plastics - brachioplasty

The arms are a part of the body where the passage of time and the effects of weight loss can be seen especially quickly. The skin on their inner part is delicate and prone to sagging, so after significant weight loss or in the aging process, excess skin often appears. So-called "pelicans" are not only an aesthetic problem, but also a reason for discomfort, abrasions and limitations in daily functioning. The solution is shoulder plastics (brachioplasty) - a surgical procedure that allows you to restore your arms to a firm, slender and proportional appearance.

What does the treatment consist of?

Arm plastics involve removing excess skin and fatty tissue from the inner surface of the arms. During the operation, the surgeon shapes the shape of the arms, restoring their proper tension and elasticity. Incisions are made in such a way that the scars are as inconspicuous as possible - usually along the medial part of the arm or in the armpit fossa. If excess fat is present, the procedure is often combined with liposuction for an even better result - the arms become not only firmer, but also slimmer.

Course of treatment

  1. Surgical consultation - the doctor takes a history, orders diagnostic tests and discusses expected results.
  2. General anesthesia - the procedure is carried out under full anesthesia.
  3. Surgery - the surgeon removes excess skin, performs liposuction if necessary, and then places sutures and drains to prevent blood pooling.
  4. Clinic stay - the patient usually stays in the clinic for 24 hours.

The duration of the operation averages 90-150 minutes.

The effects of shoulder plasticity:

  • Firm and modeled arms,
  • Improving the proportions of the figure,
  • The ability to wear sleeveless clothes freely,
  • lasting effect, provided that a stable body weight is maintained.

The first effects are visible right after the procedure, and the final result can be assessed after 4-6 months, when the swelling subsides and the scars begin to fade.

Recovery after the procedure

  • Sutures are removed after 7-14 days, drains after about 2 days.
  • Swelling and bruising may persist for several weeks.
  • Return to full physical activity occurs after about 4-6 weeks.
  • The scars are located in discrete areas and become barely visible after 12-24 months.

FAQ

Answers to frequently asked questions about a variety of treatments and procedures.

For whom is the shoulder plastic surgery procedure intended?

Arm plasty is recommended for people who are struggling with excess flabby skin or fatty tissue in the arms - usually after major weight loss or as a result of natural aging processes. The procedure is dedicated to patients in good health, with no contraindications to general anesthesia.

What is the recovery like after the procedure?

After the procedure, the patient remains in the clinic for 24 hours. Drains are usually removed after 2 days, and sutures after 7-14 days. Swelling and bruising may persist for several weeks. Full physical activity can be returned to after about 4-6 weeks.

Are shoulder plastic surgery scars visible?

Incisions are made in the least visible areas possible - along the medial aspect of the arm and in the armpit fossa. As a result, the scars are well hidden and become hardly noticeable after 12-24 months.

How long do the effects of the treatment last?

The effects of shoulder plasty are permanent, as long as the patient maintains a stable body weight and maintains a healthy lifestyle. The first results are visible almost immediately, and the final effect can be assessed after 4-6 months, when the swelling subsides.

What tests need to be done before the procedure?

Before arm plasty, qualifying tests are required, including blood count, blood type, clotting parameters (APTT, INR), glucose levels, creatinine, electrolytes, general urinalysis, EKG, chest X-ray, and testing for HBs, HCV, HIV.

What are the contraindications to shoulder plasty?

The procedure is not performed in people with unregulated chronic diseases (e.g., diabetes, hypertension), blood clotting disorders, active infections, pregnant and breastfeeding women, and in poor general health that prevents general anesthesia.
