Endoscopic facelift

As the years go by, especially after the age of 35, we observe characteristic changes: the appearance of wrinkles, more pronounced nasolabial folds, and a gradual loss of the face’s former contours due to tissue atrophy and sagging, particularly in the areas of the eyebrows, forehead, and cheeks. Endoscopic facelift is a modern and minimally invasive plastic surgery technique that helps restore a youthful appearance.

What is an endoscopic facelift, and what does the procedure involve?

An endoscopic facelift is an advanced surgical procedure that utilizes minimally invasive techniques. The procedure is typically performed under general anesthesia (in exceptional cases, local anesthesia may be used), and hospitalization lasts one day.

How it works

This method relies on the use of an endoscope—a camera equipped with a light source that allows the surgeon to work with precision within the deep structures of the face while maintaining an excellent field of view.

The procedure involves:

  1. Making small incisions (approx. 1–3 cm) strategically hidden in the hairy part of the scalp.
  2. Through gentle dissection and elevation of sagging soft tissues, thereby increasing skin tension and smoothing out wrinkles.
  3. Stabilizing the lifted tissues with sutures to ensure long-lasting results.

The use of endoscopic instruments shortens recovery time and significantly reduces the visibility of scars compared to traditional facelift methods.

Typical applications

Endoscopy is particularly effective in treating:

  • Endoscopic forehead lift – the goal is to lift drooping eyebrows and improve the appearance of forehead wrinkles, resulting in a more open and cheerful expression.
  • Endoscopic mid-face lift—focuses on lifting sagging cheeks and softening visible nasolabial folds.

Preparation for the procedure

Preparation requires strict adherence to the surgeon’s individual instructions, which are designed to ensure optimal safety and healing:

  • 2–3 weeks before the procedure—it is recommended to limit or completely avoid stimulants (alcohol, cigarettes) that may negatively affect microcirculation and wound healing. Increase physical activity (e.g., walking) for those who do not regularly exercise.
  • One week prior—it is necessary to stop taking medications that affect blood clotting (e.g., certain nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs, certain herbal supplements).
  • On the day of the procedure, you must fast completely for 8–10 hours prior to general anesthesia. On the day of the surgery, do not apply makeup or cosmetics to your face.

Recovery after an endoscopic facelift

Thanks to minimally invasive techniques, the recovery period is usually shorter, although its duration depends on individual factors.

  • In the first few days, typical symptoms such as swelling and bruising may occur, but these gradually subside.
  • To support the healing process and speed up your recovery, we recommend our Comprehensive Perioperative Care Program.
  • For about a month, you should avoid strenuous activity, lifting heavy objects, and bending over.
  • The results of the treatment are long-lasting, but it’s important to remember that the natural aging process continues.

Contraindications for the procedure

The decision to undergo the procedure is always preceded by a thorough medical evaluation. Absolute or relative contraindications include, among others:

  • Uncontrolled chronic conditions (e.g., uncontrolled hypertension, uncontrolled diabetes, advanced heart disease).
  • Blood clotting disorders.
  • Active skin infections or inflammation in the surgical area.
  • Pregnancy and breastfeeding.
  • A tendency to develop abnormal scars (keloids).

Correct body weight is important in surgical qualification, as a facelift can be complemented by chin liposuction, but is not used to slim down the face. Overall health, nutrition, stimulants and physical fitness also affect the results.

FAQ

Answers to frequently asked questions about a variety of treatments and procedures.

How long do the results of an endoscopic facelift last?

The results of the procedure are long-lasting and often persist for many years, typically more than 10 years. However, it is important to remember that the procedure does not halt the natural aging process. The final duration depends on the patient’s individual predisposition, lifestyle (e.g., sun exposure, smoking), and overall skin condition. The goal is to “turn back the clock,” but time continues to pass.

Is a facelift painful?

The endoscopic facelift itself is performed under anesthesia (general or local), so patients do not feel any pain during the procedure. In the postoperative period, patients experience discomfort, tightness, and mild pain, which is effectively managed with prescribed medications. The most significant discomfort usually subsides within the first 48 hours.

How long does recovery take after an endoscopic facelift?

The initial recovery phase typically lasts 7 to 14 days. During this time, the most severe bruising and swelling subside, and the patient can resume light social activities. A full return to intense physical activity and tissue stabilization usually takes about 4–6 weeks. The final aesthetic result can be assessed after a few months.

What are the risks and possible complications of a facelift?

Like any surgical procedure, a facelift carries risks. Possible complications include hematomas, swelling and bruising, infections, asymmetry, or temporary sensory disturbances in the treated area (in rare cases, nerve damage). The risk of complications is minimized through thorough patient screening and the experience of the surgical team. You will be informed about the specific risks of complications during your consultation and in the informed consent form.

When can I return to work after a facelift?

- Office work/remote work – you can return to work after 7–10 days, depending on the extent of the swelling and the patient’s comfort level.
- Work requiring physical exertion – we recommend waiting at least 4 weeks before returning to work.
- Physical exercise (light) – you can start after 2–3 weeks.

Can a facelift be combined with other treatments?

Yes, endoscopic facelifts are often combined with other procedures to optimize the rejuvenating effect, such as eyelid surgery (blepharoplasty), a lip lift, or fat transfer (lipofilling). The decision to combine procedures is always discussed individually with the surgeon, taking into account the patient’s health and safety.

Does a facelift leave visible scars?

The goal of an endoscopic facelift is to minimize the visibility of scars. Thanks to the use of an endoscope, the incisions are very small (usually 1–3 cm) and strategically hidden within the scalp. Once the scars have fully healed and matured, they are virtually invisible. We also recommend scar care programs as part of postoperative care (e.g., PSM) to further improve their appearance.
