What is an endoscopic facelift, and what does the procedure involve?
An endoscopic facelift is an advanced surgical procedure that utilizes minimally invasive techniques. The procedure is typically performed under general anesthesia (in exceptional cases, local anesthesia may be used), and hospitalization lasts one day.
How it works
This method relies on the use of an endoscope—a camera equipped with a light source that allows the surgeon to work with precision within the deep structures of the face while maintaining an excellent field of view.
The procedure involves:
- Making small incisions (approx. 1–3 cm) strategically hidden in the hairy part of the scalp.
- Through gentle dissection and elevation of sagging soft tissues, thereby increasing skin tension and smoothing out wrinkles.
- Stabilizing the lifted tissues with sutures to ensure long-lasting results.
The use of endoscopic instruments shortens recovery time and significantly reduces the visibility of scars compared to traditional facelift methods.
Typical applications
Endoscopy is particularly effective in treating:
- Endoscopic forehead lift – the goal is to lift drooping eyebrows and improve the appearance of forehead wrinkles, resulting in a more open and cheerful expression.
- Endoscopic mid-face lift—focuses on lifting sagging cheeks and softening visible nasolabial folds.
Preparation for the procedure
Preparation requires strict adherence to the surgeon’s individual instructions, which are designed to ensure optimal safety and healing:
- 2–3 weeks before the procedure—it is recommended to limit or completely avoid stimulants (alcohol, cigarettes) that may negatively affect microcirculation and wound healing. Increase physical activity (e.g., walking) for those who do not regularly exercise.
- One week prior—it is necessary to stop taking medications that affect blood clotting (e.g., certain nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs, certain herbal supplements).
- On the day of the procedure, you must fast completely for 8–10 hours prior to general anesthesia. On the day of the surgery, do not apply makeup or cosmetics to your face.
Recovery after an endoscopic facelift
Thanks to minimally invasive techniques, the recovery period is usually shorter, although its duration depends on individual factors.
- In the first few days, typical symptoms such as swelling and bruising may occur, but these gradually subside.
- To support the healing process and speed up your recovery, we recommend our Comprehensive Perioperative Care Program.
- For about a month, you should avoid strenuous activity, lifting heavy objects, and bending over.
- The results of the treatment are long-lasting, but it’s important to remember that the natural aging process continues.
Contraindications for the procedure
The decision to undergo the procedure is always preceded by a thorough medical evaluation. Absolute or relative contraindications include, among others:
- Uncontrolled chronic conditions (e.g., uncontrolled hypertension, uncontrolled diabetes, advanced heart disease).
- Blood clotting disorders.
- Active skin infections or inflammation in the surgical area.
- Pregnancy and breastfeeding.
- A tendency to develop abnormal scars (keloids).
