Why remove moles?
Some skin lesions, such as pigmented moles, warts, fibromas or epidermolysis bullosa, can become irritated or transformed over time, especially if they are located in areas exposed to trauma, abrasion or UV radiation.
Early removal of a worrisome lesion avoids complications and provides reassurance about its benign nature.
The nevus removal procedure performed on an outpatient basis is a short, minimally invasive procedure that ensures patient safety, comfort and a quick return to daily activities.
How does the skin nevus removal procedure work?
Before the doctor proceeds with the procedure, a dermatological or surgical consultation is carried out, during which the specialist evaluates the skin lesion and qualifies it for the appropriate method of removal.
If there is any doubt about the nature of the lesion, videodermatoscopy is performed or the patient is referred for histopathological examination.
The procedure is performed under local anesthesia, so the patient feels no pain.
Depending on the method:
- Surgical removal of a nevus involves cutting it out along with a margin of healthy tissue and placing sutures. The removed material is sent for histopathological examination.
- Laser therapy uses the action of a light beam that precisely vaporizes the lesion without damaging the surrounding tissues.
- Electrocoagulation removes the lesion using high-frequency current, which coagulates tissue and closes small blood vessels.
The entire procedure usually takes 15-30 minutes, and the patient can go home the same day.
How to prepare for the procedure?
Before the procedure, it is necessary to inform the doctor about all medications you are taking, especially those that affect blood clotting.
There is no need for special tests, but in some cases the doctor may recommend histopathological examination of the removed lesion.
On the day of treatment:
- Avoid makeup or creams at the site of the planned lesion removal,
- In the case of hairy lesions, it may be necessary to shave the treatment area,
- Alcohol consumption and smoking are not recommended.
Aftercare
After the procedure, the doctor provides detailed recommendations for wound care.
These usually include:
- Changing dressings as prescribed,
- The use of creams that regenerate and accelerate healing,
- Avoiding excessive stretching of the skin and exposure to the sun,
- Keeping the wound clean and dry.
In the case of surgery, the sutures are removed after 7-14 days, and the histopathological result is usually available after 2-4 weeks.
Effects of the treatment
The result of nevus removal is smooth, healthy skin and confidence in the benign nature of the lesion.
The use of modern methods minimizes the risk of scarring and reduces healing time.
In the case of cancerous lesions, rapid intervention allows early detection of the disease and effective treatment.

- pregnancy and breastfeeding,
- active cancer,
- blood clotting disorders,
- Active skin infection at the treatment site,
