What is the course of the skin nevus removal procedure?

Before treatment, it is necessary to consult a dermatologist or surgeon, who will assess the nature of the skin lesion and decide on an appropriate treatment method. If a cancerous lesion is suspected, the doctor will order additional diagnostic tests, such as videodermatoscopy.

The patient should inform the doctor about all medications he is taking, especially those that affect blood clotting. In the case of hairy lesions, it may be necessary to shave the treatment area. The procedure is performed under local anesthesia, which ensures patient comfort.

Depending on the method chosen, the procedure involves excision of the lesion, removal by laser or electrocoagulation. In the case of surgical excision, the doctor incises the skin around the lesion, removes it along with a margin of healthy tissue, and then applies sutures. The removed material is sent for histopathological examination to evaluate its nature.

After the procedure, the patient is given recommendations for wound care, including changing dressings, avoiding excessive stretching of the skin and using creams to speed up healing. In the case of surgical excision, the sutures are removed after about 7-14 days. The result of a histopathological examination is usually available after 2-4 weeks.

Duration of treatment

The duration of the procedure depends on the method and the number of lesions to be removed. The procedure for surgical removal of one lesion usually takes 15 to 30 minutes. Laser skin lesion removal can take several to several minutes, depending on the size and number of lesions.

Are there contraindications to skin lesion removal?

The skin lesion removal procedure may be contraindicated in cases of pregnancy and breastfeeding, active cancer, blood clotting disorders, active skin infection at the treatment site, active psoriatic lesions and a tendency to scarring.
