How do stem cells work on hair?
Stem cells used in the treatment of alopecia are most often derived from the patient's adipose tissue (ADSC - Adipose Derived Stem Cells). After they are collected and properly prepared, they are administered to the areas affected by baldness. They act on the hair follicles by:
- the release of growth factors that stimulate the activity of hair follicles,
- improving blood circulation in the scalp, which helps nourish the follicles,
- regeneration of damaged tissues, which leads to the reconstruction of the hair structure.
Course of treatment with stem cells
The stem cell treatment begins with a thorough medical consultation, during which a specialist assesses the patient's health and diagnoses the type of hair loss. At this stage, the doctor conducts a detailed interview, asking about medical history, co-existing diseases, medications taken, and lifestyle. The purpose of the consultation is to determine eligibility for the procedure, provided there are no contraindications. The doctor also identifies the areas of the scalp that will be treated to achieve the best possible results.
The next step is to take a small amount of fat tissue from the patient. The procedure is done under local anesthesia, and the material is usually taken from the abdominal or thigh area. Fat is an excellent source of stem cells, which are used for tissue regeneration. The collection usually takes a few minutes, and the patient feels no pain thanks to the anesthesia used.
After the fat tissue is extracted, the material is sent to a laboratory where it is centrifuged. This process separates the stem cells from other tissue components, such as fat and red blood cells. The result is a concentrate containing cells with a high regenerative potential, which will stimulate new hair growth and tissue regeneration in the balding area.
The prepared stem cell product is then applied to the scalp using a mesotherapy technique, which stimulates the hair follicles to grow new hair. The entire process usually takes 45 to 60 minutes, and the patient does not experience much discomfort thanks to local anesthesia.
After the procedure, the patient can immediately return to daily activities, although during the first few days there may be slight redness or swelling at the injection sites, which quickly subsides. Depending on individual needs, it may be necessary to perform a series of treatments (usually 2-3 sessions at intervals of 4 to 6 weeks) to achieve optimal results. It is worth mentioning that the effects are visible after several months, when the patient begins to notice the growth of new, strong hair.
Effects of stem cell treatment
The first effects of stem cell treatment may be noticeable about 2-3 months after the treatment. Hair becomes stronger, thicker and denser. You have to wait 6 to 12 months for complete effects.
Contraindications for stem cell treatment
Stem cell treatment is not recommended in cases of pregnancy and breastfeeding, cancer, blood clotting disorders, scalp infections, and taking blood-thinning drugs.
