Breast reduction is a procedure chosen by women who want not only to change the appearance of their bust, but above all to regain everyday comfort. Melka Kowal had known for years that this moment would eventually come. After much reflection, preparation and a conscious decision, she put herself in the hands of the specialists at Dr Szczyt Chirurgia Plastyczna. The breast reduction procedure was performed by Prof. Artur Pasternak, MD, PhD.

In the materials describing her operation, Melka says plainly that this wasn't a decision made on a whim. It was a path that matured over years - alongside further experiences, changes in her body, and growing certainty that she wanted to do something for herself.

What made Melka Kowal decide to have a breast reduction?

For Melka, breast reduction was the answer to a very specific problem. Her bust threw off the proportions of her figure, making her whole silhouette look heavy. On top of that, having such a large bust came with daily discomfort. Painful chafing and rashes appeared, especially in summer, and over time back pain as well.

So it wasn't purely a matter of aesthetics. It was about how her body looked, but also about how she functioned day to day.

Already after my first child, I knew my breasts would need surgery. And with age, and with each subsequent pregnancy and breastfeeding, I only became more certain of this decision - the woman explained just before the operation.

Over time, Melka felt more and more strongly that breast reduction was a procedure that could genuinely change her quality of life. Especially since, after her pregnancies and breastfeeding, her breasts began to affect the perception of her whole figure even more.

A long road to the decision

Melka Kowal was fully aware that breast reduction is a surgical operation, and that the decision to undergo it shouldn't be made hastily. She knew she wanted to have more children, so she didn't want to have the surgery after her first delivery. Instead, she gave herself time and consciously prepared for this step.

I've been thinking about breast reduction surgery since I gave birth to my first child (...). I knew I wanted to have more children, so I had to wait. I prepared thoroughly for the operation over 1.5 years - the patient emphasizes.

This shows that for her, breast reduction wasn't an impulse but a well-thought-out decision. She waited for the right moment, observed her body, and grew into a change that was meant to truly be her own.

What emotions accompanied the patient before the operation?

Although this was her first operation ever, Melka doesn't describe fear in the classic sense. Before the procedure she felt more stress, excitement and impatience. She was very much looking forward to the results and felt she was finally approaching a moment she had been thinking about for a long time.

This is an important point, because many patients worry not only about the procedure itself, but also about how they'll cope psychologically with a first operation. Melka's story clearly shows that trust in the place and the team who would care for her mattered enormously.

Why did she decide on surgery at Dr Szczyt Chirurgia Plastyczna clinic?

The choice of clinic wasn't accidental. Melka wanted a place associated with the highest standard of care and safety. She decided to have the operation performed by the surgeons at Dr Szczyt Chirurgia Plastyczna because she wanted to be certain the whole process would go smoothly and professionally.

I wanted to be 100% sure that I would be well cared for and wouldn't have to worry about anything - Melka recalls.

That sense of security was key for her. She chose Dr Artur Pasternak because she liked his work. Before making her final decision, she already knew she wanted to put herself in the hands of a doctor whose aesthetic and surgical results resonated with her.

The support of those around her also mattered enormously. She made the decision to have surgery on her own, but her husband supported her from the very beginning. The reaction of her followers on social media, who rooted for her along the way and offered encouragement, also gave her a lot of strength.

Preparation for the operation and post-procedure care

An important part of Melka's story is that care didn't begin only in the operating room. Before the procedure, the patient met with a physiotherapist, who instructed her in detail on how to safely lie down, sit and get up after the operation. For many patients this may seem like a small detail, but in practice it makes getting through the first days of recovery much easier.

After the procedure, physiotherapy was also part of the whole process of returning to normal functioning. Melka received comprehensive care in this respect too, which helped her go through the healing and recovery stage with greater peace of mind.

What were the first days after breast reduction like?

As with any operation, rest and greater attentiveness to her body were needed after the procedure. Melka emphasizes, however, that day-to-day functioning turned out to be simpler than she expected.

It's easier than I thought - I need to rest more often and more, but I can manage simple tasks without a problem - she said a few days after the procedure.

This is a valuable perspective for women who fear they'll completely lose their independence after the operation. Of course recovery requires rest and healing, but Melka's first experiences showed that it isn't always as difficult as it might seem before the procedure.

What changed after the operation?

One of the things Melka noticed very clearly was the change in the proportions of her whole figure. It wasn't just a difference in bust size, but in how her body began to look as a whole.

My breasts were so saggy that my proportions were thrown off (...). I basically had a flat chest, and my breasts started much lower and curved much lower down, so now we're surprised at how high up these breasts sit - the patient recalls.

This aspect is often the turning point for women. Breast reduction isn't only about "making things smaller." It's also about restoring harmony to the figure, a sense of lightness, and the feeling that the body looks coherent.

After the procedure, Melka also spoke about fulfilling her dream and about her gratitude toward Dr Pasternak. This operation was something far bigger for her than just a change in appearance - it was the closing of a very long inner process.

Melka Kowal: No one should judge us

At the end of this story comes a very important statement. Melka doesn't talk about the operation as a whim or a passing fancy. She talks about it as a conscious decision meant to help her live more comfortably, more lightly, and closer to herself: If I had to say something to people who want to decide on such an operation, I'd say this: fear has big eyes. (...) It's important to do everything you can to feel good in your own body, and no one should judge us for that.

And it's precisely this message that is one of the most important parts of this story. Breast reduction can be an aesthetic change, but for many women it's above all a change in quality of life. And if the decision has matured over a long time, has been well thought through, and leads to greater comfort, it's truly worth giving yourself permission to make it.
